The prize named after Roberta Foglino (hereinafter referred to as the Roberta Foglino Prize) is a literary prize, in English, for the city and district of Milan, structured in different sections and edited by the Liceo Linguistico of the Marceline Institute in Milan, piazza Tommaseo 1.

The organization of the prize is entrusted to an Executive Committee composed of the headmaster of the Liceo Linguistico and two teachers appointed by the headmaster, one of whom is a teacher of English.

The Committee shall appoint the jury of the Roberta Foglino Prize and can, annually, award special prizes.

The identity of the jury members – chosen from the spheres of education, culture and publishing and communication – will be communicated in the context of the award ceremony.

The jury, whose decision is final and irrevocable, will assess the winners on the basis of:

  1. Good content and suitable style
  2. Linguistic ability and depth of vocabulary
  3. Coherence and consistency in the story line
  4. Characterization
  5. Originality and ability to involve the reader

The Roberta Foglino Prize is open to all students of the city and district of Milan in their last year of the Scuola Secondaria di 1° Grado and all students of the Scuola Secondaria di 2° Grado, (i.e., students between the ages of 12 and 19).

The JUNIOR category is for students aged between12 and 15, while the SENIOR category is for those between 16 and 19.

Students must register for the prize (entry fee €20) by 6th February 2017, in the section Roberta Foglino Prize on the website www.premiorobertafoglino.com.

The written works should be sent by mail no later than February 28th 2017 to the address info@premiorobertafoglino.com and should indicate the title of the work in the object.

Students can participate in a single section. The written work must be unpublished and in English.

Students must indicate the following in their email:

  • short introduction to the work in English (max 100 words)
  • short introduction about the author in English (max 70 words)

Subject And Sections

The subject is:
AIMING HIGH – in the sense of aiming for success with commitment and determination, for the realization of one’s own dreams or for the realization of projects to share with others for the common good.

There are two sections:

- Short story (max 1000 words)
- Visual storytelling (max 3 minutes)

The written and/or audio text must be strictly in ENGLISH.
The music and images used in the video must be ORIGINAL.

SENIOR CATEGORY:

The Roberta Foglino Literary Prize will award a one-week study course in England for 1st place in the short story and visual storytelling sections.

The other prizes will be:

 

2nd place in the short story and visual storytelling sections:

6 English conversation lessons with a native speaker

 

3rd place in the short story section:

Participation in projections at the 2017 Milan Film Festival with a native English teacher

 

3rd place in the visual storytelling section:

A video camera

 

In addition, the seven most appreciated short stories and videos will be published.

 

JUNIOR CATEGORY:

The Junior category includes a prize for the 1st place in each section:

Books/materials voucher or 4 English conversation lessons with a native speaker

 

In addition, the four most appreciated short stories and videos will be published.

The authors, by the very fact of participating in the competition, transfer the license rights to publish  to the Liceo Linguistico of the Marcelline Institute, promoter of the competition, without any claims to copyright, while remaining owners of the work.

The winning works and those classified will be published in a paper version (with NFC for video content) for ARPANet Editions.

All the rights of the Prize are reserved and the use of the names or the images must be authorized by the headmaster of the Liceo Linguistico, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Award.
